Applied Probability and Statistics are essential tools for analyzing data in various fields. A minor in Applied Probability and Statistics will prepare students and enhance their abilities to understand and solve problems in their own major fields. The minor in Applied Probability and Statistics is also designed to meet a demand by industry and governmental agencies for personnel who are able to utilize appropriate statistical and other quantitative methods to solve problems as diverse as quality control and population dynamics and to facilitate wise decision making in the face of uncertainty. Requirements (15 credits): MATH 112 - Statistical Reasoning (3 cr.) MATH 306
Students graduating with a B.S. in applied mathematics have a wide range of career options in industry, finance, government, nonprofit organizations and education, as well as advanced degrees in the mathematical sciences (mathematics, statistics, and computer science). Based on students' career interests they may enroll in degree tracks to help guide the students' choice of courses, such as: Operations research. Financial mathematics. Mathematical biology. Applied mathematical networks. General applied mathematics.

The applied mathematics emphasis is an industrial and engineering driven program which focuses on developing skills needed to solve real-world problems. It is intended that the program prepare the student to launch a career in the corporate and manufacturing industries. In addition, the B.S. in applied mathematics is designed to dovetail into graduate studies in applied mathematics and engineering. Distinctive Features The student receives a thorough background in the basic applied mathematics courses, including linear algebra, differential equations, probability and statistics, and numerical methods. Students will be involved in using these mathematical tools to solve complex problems which arise in the energy
